Not just a golf course, Hooper Golf Club has a deep seed in the way of life around the idyllic small town of Walpole, NH. Our original articles of corporation say it best,
"The objects for which this corporation is organized are the establishment, conduct, and maintenance of a country club, with golf courses, grounds, buildings or other structures, for golf and other games, sports, and amusements, for social recreation and improvement and the promotion of the prosperity of the town of Walpole, New Hampshire."
The nine hole layout atop a hill overlooking the Green Mountains and Connecticut River Valley is one of the finest layouts from acclaimed course architects Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek, designed in 1927.
The property located on Prospect Hill Rd., originally known as Meeting House Hill Farm, was donated to the town by Mr. & Mrs. George L. Hooper, hence it's namesake.
At a special Town Meeting on July 10, 1926, the organization which was to become Hooper G.C. proposed to lease a part of the land donated by Mr & Mrs. Hooper, and was accepted.
Soon thereafter work on the course began, with Wayne Stiles supervising the construction and crew of Italian workmen-golf course specialists.
Then Vice-President Dwigh Harris commented in a letter on January 31, 1927, "I am sure we will eventually have a most beautifull course not only from the scenic side, but from the playing side. And we must see to it that we not only make it a great course, but keep it so."
Mr. Harris would be proud that his preamble of Hooper Golf Club has remained as such through the ages and up until this day.
Today we strive to continue the vision of Mr. Harris into the future by providing golf as an activity for all, senior, junior, beginner, or scratch handicap, in a beautiful setting and without delay on the course. We prescribe to the less is more approach, you will not find opulence here, however you will find our accomodations quaint and kept in the tradition of the beautiful town they are in, Walpole, NH. We will provide to the prosperity of our home with well manicured grounds and a golf experience that is deserved of the town which we call home.
